3 makeovers for your old suitcase

January 6, 2011

My roommate Sarah has this adorable old suitcase that she wanted to throw away because it was ripped and one of the wheels was missing. In my fervor to reuse things I Googled old suitcase and found some great repurposed pieces of luggage.

#1 Boombox

Mr. Simo, a self-professed audio-nut, turns suitcases into custom made boomcases that look like pieces of art. And, he avoids using plastic suitcases, and added bonus that’s good for the environment.

#2 Couch

Katie Thomson, a talented designer from South Africa, finds old suitcases and makes them into chairs, sofas and tables, all with an Anthropologie feel.

#3 Wardrobe

If you have lots of old suitcases, you could try to emulate Maarten De Ceulaer, who has turned a collection of luggage into a full scale wardrobe. Also apparently good for hide-and-seek as indicated by the hand reaching out from inside.

Will be keeping the wardrobe idea on my mind over the years as I search for awesome luggage. I recently found an old weekender case in my grandmother’s shed that is still in great shape…looks very vintage. I’m thinking of styling it up and came across this post.
